What’s new in the HP Elite Dragonfly G3?
The most recent version of the HP Elite Dragonfly has some differences from its predecessor, some of which may be beneficial or detrimental depending on your preferences. But, for the most part, this is a significant improvement over the prior model.
3:2 display
The HP Elite Dragonfly G3’s redesigned display, which has a 3:2 aspect ratio instead of 16:9, is one of the most significant advancements. It’s unfortunate that a current premium laptop like this has a 16:9 display in the first place, but it’s nice to see that this has been corrected with a tall display that’s a huge productivity boost. HP utilises this aspect ratio on the Spectre x360 14, and Microsoft uses it on their Surface devices.
In addition, this new display now has a “3K2K” OLED panel with a resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels. This is the first Elite Dragonfly laptop to feature an OLED display, which provides pure blacks, vibrant colours, a high contrast ratio, and quick response times. This OLED panel has a touchscreen as well.

Another significant difference that you might not enjoy is that the HP Elite Dragonfly G3 is no longer a convertible laptop. Because HP chose to make it a traditional clamshell, you won’t be able to use it as a tablet, and touch functionality isn’t provided by default.
This is typically done to make a laptop thinner or lighter. However, the Elite Dragonfly G3 isn’t more portable than the G2 model. The weight is nearly the same, though it could be due to the change, given the taller screen (and hence larger chassirelease dates).

The HP Elite Dragonfly G3 is also inspired by the HP Elite Dragonfly Max, a new laptop version released last year. Like the Elite Dragonfly G2, this model had a 5MP camera, which the Dragonfly G3 now possesses. This year, HP is genuinely embracing high-quality cameras for many of its laptops, which is fantastic. With capabilities like clever auto framing, the camera also supports HP Presence.
With a huge 5MP sensor, video conferences and meetings will have significantly more resolution and quality. Instead of employing a combined sensor, HP separated the webcam from the IR camera utilized for Windows Hello. These combined sensors allowed for a more compact configuration but at the expense of image quality; thus, this adjustment will improve video quality.
12th-generation Intel Core processors

The HP Elite Dragonfly G3 learns your work habits and adjusts its power consumption accordingly. If you walk away from your laptop, the AI-controlled feature will detect your absence and alter the laptop’s power consumption. It also identifies when you’re sleeping and uses less power. It’s inconvenient to have your computer die on you, especially when you’re on the go, so this battery-saving option is a godsend.
What is the price of the HP Elite Dragonfly G3?
HP has yet to release pricing for the new Elite Dragonfly G3 as of this writing. However, compared to its predecessor, the lowest-end configuration on HP’s website currently costs roughly $1,644. It can go much higher than an Intel Core i3, with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD.
However, the new Elite Dragonfly has several significant modifications that could affect pricing, mainly since it is no longer a convertible laptop. It’s simply a standard clamshell, which should help to cut the price down a little. Improvements such as a larger display and a better webcam, on the other hand, may help to balance things out.
