What medicine should you take on your vacation

When you travel your body is adapted to many changes, for example weather changes, body clock due to jet lag, reduced sleeping hours and thus affecting the whole system inside your body. It is always good to make sure you are healthy enough before you plan for any vacation. Prolong hours sitting inside an enclosed airplane also can induce stress and suppress the immune system. Don’t forget to prepare a bucket of toiletries, stock up medicine kits, and all the necessities before you pack your stuff. Make sure you carry all the travel medicine needed because you do not know what things might happen during your vacation. Always anticipate unexpected scenarios, for example an emergency case. Travel is not always as sweet as candy. Hence, do not rely on your hotel room or travel agency to provide it for you. You must be alert what kind of medicine is required during your stay. It is a nightmare if you could not find the right medicine during your vacation and overpriced medicine if you purchased it in other countries.

1)     Analgesic pain relief

Paracetamol or a pain killer is the basic remedy you need to bring along during travel. It can treat ache and reduce pain. Headache is a common problem that happens to someone who travels because your body is weak after long hours of journey. Approximately 500 mg concentration of paracetamol is good enough to eliminate your pain. You don’t need a prescription to buy paracetamol. The dosage also is not limited. Use it wisely if you think you need it.

2)     Antifungal cream

There might be a chance for someone to develop fungus infections during travel. Topical antifungal creams are medicines applied to the skin to treat skin infections for example candidiasis, ringworm, athlete’s foot are the common skin infections. Antifungal cream can be used in various parts of the body like toe or hand which is the common place infection occurs. The function of this cream is to kill or inactivate the fungi and yeast. You can

apply the cream twice per day if you develop a mild skin infection. Severe skin

infections cannot be treated with antifungal creams and must consult a doctor

for systematic treatment. The cream can only relieve itchiness, burning and skin cracking. There are various medicines available to treat fungal infections such as miconazole, clotrimazole, econazole, ketoconazole, oxiconazole and many more. Most of the creams can be purchased at the pharmacy. Make sure you have it on your list.

3)     Cough medicine

If you are traveling to a temperate or hot countries for example Middle East Peninsula, you may face drastic weather changes and thus may affect your state of wellbeing due to low

humidity. Keep your cough under control with cough medicine. Avoid the trigger factor for example dust. In certain countries, the pollution levels are very high. Make sure you check the air quality index before you step out of the door. Besides that, it is safe to wear a mask if you feel under the weather. All the precaution steps taken can prevent you from a more serious problem for example bronchitis.

4)     Antiseptic solution

It is important to bring along antiseptic solution during travel in case you are injured. When you apply antiseptic cream on your cuts, it can reduce the risk of getting a bacterial

infection and boost the healing process. There are various antiseptic solutions available for example iodine, chloroxylenol, isopropyl alcohol and benzalkonium chloride. Make sure you clean and wash the wound thoroughly before you apply any dressing, bandage or plaster. Alcohol wipes is an easier method to cleanse the wound as well. Opt for at least 70% alcohol because it is the best percentage to kill the germ, bacteria or virus. It is also very important to carry hand sanitizer during the pandemic. Use it regularly especially after you touch any surface area.
